Asalamu Alaikum! I'm getting ready to go to Umrah in about a week. I was wondering if there is anything I have to prepare for before going? I've done a little bit of research on it already but I was hoping you could help me more. Shukran, ya uktee. I pray that you are doing well. :) Wa alykum asalaam wa rahmatu’Allaahe wa barakaatu. Masha’Allaah tabarak’Allaah ukhtee, may you arrive safely and may Allaah purify your actions/intentions. I found a really great guide that’s easy to read and follow! Insha’Allaah it’ll be of great help : Here it is, it’s a word document. I hope it opens, if not I’ll find another link insha’Allaah! Have a lovely day, wa’asalamu alykum. |

Salam Alaykum, is it haram to dye your hair black? Is it sunnah to wear eyeliner (if you're a girl)? Is it sunnah to own a cat? Lol, random questions but these are things I have been very curious about. JazakhAllahkhairun. Wa alykum asalaam wa rahmatu’Allaahe wa barakaatu! Not a problemo, but I do suggest and suggest and suggest, HIGHLY that you check all these questions on fatwa sites because the Ulemaa truly spend a lot of time on them just for our benefit! May Allaah reward them. Fatwa-Islam, fatwaonline, alifta.org, troid.ca, abdurrahman.org.
I hope this helped! The links I provided give you a bunch of links to lead you to the answers. Almost like a scavenger hunt, but nothing at all like it and everything like me just giving you a link to click on a link you choose. Well. Wa antee fajazaaki’Allaahu khair. ! |

Asalamualaikum, so an abaya is essentially the same thing as a jilbaab but they are both worn from the head. Does that mean the hijab is attached to the garment covering the body? Because the abayas I wear, I guess they're not abayas now, start from my shoulders. Are they just dresses? Where can you get proper abayas, because I've just been sowing mine. Also the only niqabis I know don't wear a jilbaab that starts from their head, should I tell them it doesn't count? Are there varying opinions? Wa alykum asalaam wa rahmatu’Allaahe wa barakaatu. The Jilbaab and ‘Abaya are terms used interchangeably by people to denote the same thing. However, essentially they’re not the same. A ‘Abayaa starts from the shoulders and thus shows the shape of the shoulders (and or arms due to design/looseness/etc.). The Jilbaab starts from the head and thus does not show the shape of the shoulders (and arms) due to it draping from the head. Yes, the hejab is attached to the garment covering the body (Jilbaab) but people can wear a headscarf and jilbaab over. Abaayas cover but they don’t necessarily conceal (due to the shape of shoulders being shown). Mmm…they’re not dresses because they cover more than dresses and many are quite modest. I know many people who arent’ able to get a Jilbaab so what they do is wear a abaaya and then wear a hejab that covers their shoulders. But Allaahu a’lem about that. Here is a fatwa in regards to Jilbaab and the Abaaya. This is a thorough read about Jilbaabs (from Qur’aan, Hadeeths, Ulemaa). To get proper abaayas (or do you mean Jilbaabs?) I would look to your city, especially if you have quite a few number of Muslims with their own businesses. There are also really nice online sites that have Jilbaabs and Abaayas: Ebay.com, my favourite site!, and a lot more others I don’t know much about. There are other sites like eastessence but I wouldn’t recommend those abaayas to be worn in public due to their …lack of being a proper garment (not all of them). I wouldn’t recommend telling them it doesn’t count because you want to advise not condemn. Perhaps with the articles I gave you, it’ll increase you and I both in knowledge in regards to the issue and then you can approach the situation better. For the time being, understand it thoroughly and if you know a sister or two, perhaps advise them in a kind and loving manner (with evidence). I don’t know about any varying opinions. The fatwa I gave you from Shaykh Ubaayd stated “Verily, those who have given the verdict (stating) that a woman can wear the ‘abayaa on the shoulders have only done so because they were unaware that the ‘abayaa has taken the place of the jilbaab; and the Jilbaab is worn from the head.” I hope I answered your question. |

Asalamualaikum, I am thinking about starting to wear the niqab (right now I wear abaya). Do you have to wear a jilbaab to wear a niqab? And what is the difference between an abaya and a jilbaab? Also I don't wear black abayas, rather I wear purple and blue and brown, all those colours. So if I start wearing niqab do I have to start wearing only black? Or can I use my hijabs (which are not black) and wrap them around my face as a niqab? Wa alykum asalaam wa rahmatu’Allaahe wa barakaatu. I pray you’re in the best state of health & eeman. The abaayaa is worn from the head & not the shoulders as is popularly worn.
The word Jilbaab comes from the word jalabib which is a garment that covers the woman’s body. There’s no difference per se in regards to abayah and jilbaab but I believe the difference comes with the word jilbaab having origins in the Qur’an (which I am unsure if abayah does). Nonetheless, they’re both loose garments but a jilbaab is known to cover starting from the head while the abaya starts from the shoulders. The ruling on wearing colourful jilbab: short video/fatwa. Basically, you don’t have to wear black if you wear the neqab. I hope this answered all your questions! Also, coveredpearls.wordpress has a lot of information in regards to jilbaab/neqab and the such. Check it out insha’Allaah! |
